Atanu Mukherjee

Atanu has been consulting for the metals, mining and energy industry globally. He works at the highest levels with national and international metals and mining firms in areas including strategy, technology, operations and finance, as well as with Governments on industrial strategy, asset restructuring and policy. He also advises private equity firms in energy and related businesses in North America. Earlier he was in the high technology industry in leadership capacities at Digital Equipment Corporation and Microsoft Corporation in the United States.

Atanu holds a joint graduate degree in Engineering and Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering and The MIT Sloan School of Management. He was a Research Fellow at MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science where his team's pioneering research laid the groundwork for powering some of the core components of today's internet infrastructure. He has multiple publications and holds two patents.

He is a member of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology, Indian Institute of Metals, American Economic Association, American Finance Association, INFORMS and the Royal Economic Society. Atanu is a visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Management and speaks and writes in the areas of International Trade and Finance, the Environment, Iron & Steel, Raw materials, Energy and Policy. He was elected to the World’s Who’s Who in Science and Engineering in 2012.

Atanu is an avid golfer. He is also a pianist and a private pilot, and enjoys orchestras, concerts and theatre.

With an ability to weave together technology, economic and market trends, Abhijit heads Dastur’s strategy, restructuring and investment advisory business, consulting at the highest levels with companies, financial institutions, investors and policy makers on operations, strategy and policy. Over the last two years, his team has assessed the techno-economic viability for more than $20B of stressed assets for corporates, lenders and investors.

Passionate about uncovering trends that create new opportunities for clients, Abhijit is a sought after speaker at international events and conferences. Prior to Dastur, Abhijit acted as an advisor to the C-suite through his own firm. Abhijit also worked at Janus Capital, Denver, USA and led significant investments in the iron & steel and global commodities, among other sectors. Before that, Abhijit led business development and product teams at Microsoft in Seattle, USA. He has dual BS degrees in Computer Science & Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Outside of work, Abhijit's interests include long distance cycling, running, craft beers and experiencing new cultures. Abhijit splits his time between Cambridge, USA and Kolkata, India.
